MEPs STANDING FOR WESTMINSTER

Many people have suggested that every MEP be required to adopt a Westminster seat and fight it till he wins. I agree. Only one MEP (Stuart Agnew) has adopted a seat (also Gerard Batten?). I find this very surprising.

It seems that the NEC has little control over what MEPs do once they have been elected.

However at Assessment stage the NEC has considerable power and can lay down criteria. These criteria should IMO include a requirement to be already cultivating a Westminster seat. I expect opinions to differ on this matter.

At the voting stage UKIP members have the option only to vote for MEP candidates who are cultivating a Westminster seat. It is up to members to decide what they want. That’s democracy.
